The Royal Free London – Private Patients Unit offers a comprehensive investigation and assessment of paediatric allergies.

It is vital allergies are correctly diagnosed and treated early so parents know how to identify symptoms and manage them. Allergic symptoms can vary from a sniffle to severe anaphylaxis. There are many different triggers to an allergic reaction such as animals, dust, nuts, wheat and pollen among other things.

We aim to provide expert advice to families, using high quality equipment for diagnostic testing.

Additionally, we have a new one-stop children’s allergy clinic led by paediatric allergy consultants and allergy nurses; consultations are available every Thursday from 5:30pm to 7:30pm. The package price for this assessment is £500.

We can provide the following services for paediatric allergies:

    • Food Allergy – this is a common allergy for children with 6% in the UK being affected. At the Royal Free Private Patients Unit we recognise it is important to understand the foods that cause allergic reactions and what foods are safe to be consumed. At our clinic, your child will have an assessment and skin prick testing for major food allergens if indicated (milk, egg, nut, sesame, fish, shellfish, soya, wheat), with the results available after 20 minutes. We can also advise families on dealing with possible future reactions, dietary advice, food avoidance and emergency plan and training with adrenaline pen when required and needed.
    • Eczema – this is the growth of an impaired skin barrier, when this occurs it is important to use moisturiser to maintain area where the skin is affected. This allergy tends to be one of the earliest signs of allergic disease within a child and can be used a predictor for other allergy issues such as food. It is important to manage these symptoms from an early age to reduce the discomfort for the child and their family. This could involve testing for allergen problems that could contribute to the issue.
    • Hay Fever – also known as Allergic Rhinitis, hay fever affects one in ten children and is a condition where inflammation in the nose has occurred as a result of the immune system reacting to the allergens in the air. Symptoms include stuffy nose, sneezing, itchy, red and watery eyes. By identifying the allergens contributing to hay fever, your consultant can then give the most appropriate advice regarding the allergens to avoid when managing this condition.
