For a Prostate MRI the patient will be placed on the MRI table, a special device known as a coil will be isertedc into the rectum directly under the prostate. It is normal to feel some mild discomfort during the insertion but you should feel more comfortable during the exam. A balloon tip on the coil is used to hold the device in place.

The MRI specialist will be there on hand to ensure you are comfortable with the examination, images will be takedn of the prostate and its surrounding area. During the prostate MRI a special dye is used via IV near the end of the exam, after all images are obtained the coil balloon will be deflated and removed.

A Radiologist will then review the images and create a 3D image of the prostate with any lesions for cancer being marked on the images using a Uronav workstation, which will then be sent to the Urologist.
